Despite its very simplistic approach, I found myself enjoying the game. Weapons can be either bought or obtained in treasure chests, and spells can be levelled up only by paying for them in the shop. Levelling up is done by gaining experience from quests and fights, and simply increases your health and magic points. You can attack with a melee weapon or spells, so combat is usually dodging, going for a hit, dodging, attacking again and so on until depleting your opponent of its health points. Fights are real-time, where your opponent has a few basic attacks which you can dodge by rolling away and getting out of harm way. You only engage with one side mission at a time so there is no need to keep track of what to do next – you either complete the mission or abandoned it to take a new one. All side quests are small and can be completed within several minutes, with the game telling you where to go and sometimes even drawing you a path. Dungeons are "enterable" structures, but the inside is just a small area displayed from a top-down perspective with monsters to fight and treasure to find. You don't "enter" a town – you simply interact with its structures – for example, you can sleep near an inn or pick up a mission on the board, but you can't enter any of the buildings. The game is played on a world map where the towns are just clusters of simple buildings. In fact, I thought that this is probably the best introductory Action Role Playing computer game I have ever come across. My feeling is that all design choices were squarely taken to make this appealing to the casual player market and indeed you don't need to be a hardcore player to enjoy the game. Besides the main quest, the game contains dozens of side quests that can be obtained through a series of quest boards found in the towns. The game is played from a top-down perspective much like earlier era RPGs, but with modern presentation, real-time fights and dungeon exploration.
